Closed Circuit Security Cameras

Keep an eye on your property, your business, or your valuables from any remote location with cctv security cameras.

Remote access closed circuit security is a booming business with a variety of practical security solutions for retail, residential, office, and private location monitoring.

Defining Closed Circuit Security

The abbreviation cctv is used to categorize video security cameras and digital cameras transmitting signals to a private, limited set of monitors; in other words, a closed circuit.

This is in contrast to open broadcast television accessible by anyone with a cable box, and is the only practical option when privacy and security is a priority.

Typically, these cameras are in high demand at casinos and retail stores of all types.  In these locations, one can find a dome security camera or uncovered security camera installed in the ceiling every few feet.  A casino has an even denser grouping of closed circuit dome security cameras.

Other operations in need of tight cctv security cameras are banks and military buildings.  Security operations are monitored 24 hours a day, every day.

High security risk locations are not the only places where closely monitored cameras are in place.  Industry uses cctv security cameras for tracking and referencing manufacturing processes.  It is also an essential tool for carrying out production in areas toxic to humans.

Legal proceedings are also recorded to a closed circuit monitor, and courtroom authorities frequently reference these tapes.

What type of camera, and how an organization or homeowner chooses to monitor their closed circuit feed are important questions to answer.

CCTV - Options for Every Situation

What are the options available for monitoring with modern technology?  Other than CCTV technology, which can run continuously or for a specified amount of time, dvr security cameras offer additional monitoring options, and often continue recording for months or years at a specific location.

Determining what option works best for a business or residence depends on the amount of time the area will be monitored, the amount of space to be monitored, available budget, and how the data will be stored.

Today's CCTV surveillance systems record data to a hard drive, which can store as much as 250 GB or more.  CD burners are common as well for creating back up files.  A good system is equipped with the option for remote viewing through a secure Internet portal, email alerts, and motion detection.

For between a $1,000 and $1,400 dollars, the SYSPRO-4D047A security system has these features and more.  The technology available at this price range is a suitable starting point for a business, residence, or bank.

In addition to easy monitoring options, the SYSPRO-4D047A system also offers real-time monitoring and multiple search options without ceasing the recording.  Because this is closed circuit viewing, everything is password protected.  In this price range, live viewing in high resolution color is the standard.

The $1000 plus price tag does not cover a whole casino or building, but it will purchase about 4 dome cctv cameras for a single room or small store.

DVR surveillance works by connecting the DVR to the internet and installing the viewing software on the computer, it will be monitored from.  DVR cctv systems come in four, eight, or 16 camera views depending on the number of cameras installed.  This is the perfect choice for a small business, and offers readily available customer service to assist in getting set up.

16 camera DVR surveillance boxes start at around $1000 without cameras.

Additional Monitoring Options

The world of cctv security cameras includes multiple options for convenient real time surveillance, whatever the need.  This includes simple wireless security cameras that are small enough to mount on any wall or ceiling.

An inconspicuous wireless camera system can be purchased starting under $200, and they are a quick to set up security solution.
Suitable for the home or business, typical features for this price range include:

-One wireless receiver
-A two night vision security camera package for indoor/outdoor applications.
-Installation to any wall outlet and a receiver that is compatible with a TV or DVD player.
-Built in audio.
-Battery operation up to 300 feet.

More advanced options for wireless security monitoring start at over $1000 for a 16 camera wireless DVR system.  Professional grade features include:

-Wide screen LCD security camera monitor.
-DVR with 4 channels and a 250 GB hard drive.
-Four cameras (on average) with night vision in full color.

These systems are appropriate for large residences and businesses in need of professional cctv security systems.  The cameras are weatherproof and send a digital feed to the receiver that is clear and sharp.  Interference or noise is all but eliminated by advanced technology, and there is no presence of wires and cables.

A wireless security camera needs to be easy to mount on an outdoor wall or ceiling as well, and see clearly in the dark for a reasonable distance.

Wireless systems are surprisingly easy to set up.  The lack of cables means installation of each camera can be done in minutes.

Stage Cameras

Sometimes the appearance of security is enough to deter a crime.  This is where inexpensive fake security cameras, or dummy security cameras can be useful.  A dummy security camera is difficult to distinguish from the real thing, and can be purchased very cheaply.  Fake security camera replicas run from about $18 to as much as $80.  For safety reasons, however, it is not recommended to use these stage cameras as a long term deterrent.

The Best Camera for the Job

Are there advantages to a dome camera sitting quietly in the ceiling, hiding the cctv security camera inside?  Even though most regular patrons of a retail store, casino, or bank are aware of the darkened dome and understand what it is for, its low profile is more attractive and less anxiety producing than seeing an exposed security camera.

One camera choice says elegant protection; the other says we have reason to be concerned.  In some locations, the latter message is the intended one.  A perfect example is a military base.  Security cameras, at least at common entries, are as intimidating as possible.

Whether the needs of your business, residence, or other location dictates a low profile approach, or a bold security camera system, make sure the technician or security personnel responsible are well-educated on its function.  An easy to use system with a user friendly graphic interface is a necessity.  Security camera companies as a rule have extensive support, both on the front end and after the purchase is made.  Use their knowledge to inform the final purchase.

Businesses and large residences should consider purchasing a system with as many of the above options as the budget can manage.  Choosing weatherproof cameras with appropriate CD or software backup systems is essential.  This is not the time to skimp on the number of cameras purchased either.

If a 16 or 32 camera system is not sufficient, purchase the additional cameras and monitors needed to complete the job properly.  Professional cctv security camera systems can run in the tens of thousands for a large property, but the cost of not securing the area could be even more.  The system that fails to secure an area or catch a criminal becomes moot, so invest wisely.

This talking absolute control system seems to cross a line to me. I can understand having a video record but having someone yell at me over an intercom like I'm some kind of child and ordering me to pick up my cigarette butt...I'd probably kick over the trash can and flip the camera off...

Can you say CONTROL FREAKS?
